“पिछवाई अब मेरा काम नहीं बल्कि मेरी पहचान बन गयी है. इस कला ने ही मुझे समाज के एक स्थान दिया है और अब मैं इस कला को दुनिया में एक स्थान दूंगा”
Bhaktvatsal Sharma has been practicing pichvai painting for the past 22 years in Nathdwara. He is carrying forward the legacy and tradition of his family who have been involved with this art from the past 4-5 generations. He considers his father as his idol who taught him this craft and made him fall in love with it. He considers this art form as a part of the beautiful lineage passed on to him by his family. He sees his works as the creation of his hands, mind and most importantly, his heart, and he envisions carring forward this legacy to the future generations too with pride. He uses natural and stone colours and his magnificent works can be seen portrayed at the Nathdwara temple. “It is not something I have inherited, it is my identity” are the words he lives by and represent his love and connection for the art form.
